Baruch Busted For Blow

cokerabbiGawker reports that English rabbi Baruch Chalomish is on trial for allegedly selling drugs, having been charged with running a “commercial cocaine-supply operation” alongside his partner, Nasir Abbas.  The original story in the London Times says the Rabbi “set up in business as a drug dealer and lavished his supplies of cocaine on young prostitutes at parties”, behavior that isn’t exactly a Kiddush HaShem.

Judging from the photo of him at left, you’d never guess he was such a team player.  Sure, Chalomish and Abbas were selling coke and soliciting hookers, but what really matters is that they were doing it together.  Who says there’s no hope for Jewish/Arab relations?!

Pilger Goes Off

Meet Pamela Pilger, the crazy self-described ‘conservative’ wearing an Israeli Defense Force tshirt.  Above is Pam on video at a Las Vegas health care town hall yelling “Heil Hitler!” at an Israeli man discussing IDF troops and public health care.  Gawker wants you to check out her facebook.  As for me, just watch this video and prepare to be appalled.

O-RLY?

Ugh, Birther Queen Orly Taitz continues to give Israelis a bad name.  Watch the Birther remix above!  Via Gawker.

Pulling an AllNighter

I saw this the other night and immediately thought that maybe if I ignored it, that it would just dissapear. Sadly, I was wrong, and now Gawker has picked it up, ensuring that this little marketing ploy will never ever go away. In hopes of bolstering late-night sales while attracting a younger crowd during slow hours, the breakfast moguls over at Denny’s have introduced a band-inspired menu that is available between 10PM and 5AM. The AllNighter menu offers customers the chance to gobble dishes concocted by stand-outs such as Good Charlotte, Rascal Flatts, Gym Class Heroes and Sum 41 while listening to alternative rock music being played through Denny’s speakers. Wow!

Senator Judas (D - PA)

Did you know Arlen Specter (newest Democratic Senator, having just left the Republican party) is Jewish? The Americans for Limited Government do. They also happen to be the people responsible for the cartoon I’ve just posted. Gawker points out:

“It wasn’t too long ago that Jewish neoconservatives were a power center in the Republican Party, and left-wing anti-war types were the anti-Semites for pointing out that Israel wanted the U.S. to invade Iraq. We’re happy the right-wing has returned its comfortable, Nixonian, Jew-hating.” Lawrence of Arabia movie full

Ancient Relic rip

The problem here is that the source never actually alludes to Specter’s Judaism, merely that his party-change was motivated by money. So who is the real anti-Semite here? Is it the Gawker writer who projects Judaism onto the Judas allegory and representation of greed? Or is it the GetLiberty.org administrator that originally posted the cartoon?

Regardless, the biggest party change here isn’t Specter’s. Sure, Gawker is incorrect in branding the image as anti-Semitic, but their commentary on the implications of that it is eerily spot-on. Anti-Semitism is changing as the political landscape in America shifts. I remember before the ‘04 presidential election that much of the Jewish community was supporting Bush solely because of his stance on Israel. It wasn’t too long ago that American Jewry looked to Republicans for both support and protection; however, as the Republican party moves to the right socially, in turn rallying around the ‘Christian nation’, they also appear less attractive to their remaining Jewish base. No doubt Specter’s party swap will be the first of many.
