Red Band is in the States

The Puppet Folk Revival, known for their hit Israeli TV show, Red Band, is performing for free at City Winery on Friday nights this month, and there are TWO more chances to catch them. Part Avenue Q, part muppets, it’s a hilarious show that is worth checking out.

DeLeon does the Afikomen

Lloyd rip

Every year Michael Dorf organizes a seder a few days before the real ones. He invites artists, comedians, activists etc. to offer their unique perspectives on different parts of the seder. This year’s Downtown Seder

Joe’s Apartment rip

was held at Dorf’s venue, City Winery, and DeLeon was honored to take part.

We were assigned “Afikomen.” We decided to look outside the Sephardic folk song tradition for our contribution and instead chose a song from the American folk songbook, “Seek and You Shall Find,” which I have loved for a good long time. Watch the video below for the explanation and half of the performance. Unfortunately the video got cut off, because my camera filled up on charoset and didn’t have room left. Part of what is missing from the video is the part where I mention that we’ve taped an Afikomen to the bottom of someone’s chair. Whoever has it gets a one dollar bill, signed by the band, no negotiating necessary.

Happy Passover everyone from your friends in DeLeon! I recommend Matzah Brai!

Though the drink that I’ll end up associating with this show is vodka. Not because I imbibed of it that night, but because of Broza’s encore.
