The last time Israeli dj crew Soulico and MCs Axum were here in the states, we took them over to Orchard’s sweet ass studio in the East Village and without question they tore it down!
Back in January, Soulico hosted a crazy release party for Exotic on the Speaker in Tel Aviv @ Barzilay and were joined on stage by a crew of guests including Axum, Idan K, Kutiman and more. Check out a clip from the show.
Finally check out 1 of Soulico’s explosive performances from SXSW 2010, Come Back featuring the one and only Onili.

Idan K and the Movement of Rhythm - Pau Do Berimbau ft. Axum & Juares Dos Santos DOWNLOAD
Idan K is a percussionist, producer and DJ hailing from Tel Aviv Israel. He’s spent the few years perfecting his impeccable style of blending afro-beat, house, funk and latin rhythms into slamming dance-floor compositions. Idan joins up with an 11 piece band to translate his studio wizardry into a crazy massive soundsystem called Idan K and The Movement of Rhythm. They manage to break cultural barriers and create a stunning piece of futuristic dance music that is deeply rooted in the traditional of which it draws it’s clolors from. Equally inspired by Fela Kuti, Bad Boy Bill and James Brown, the tracks these guys are creating will keep dance floors rumbling from NYC to Tel Aviv.
Their latest release, Change is Now EP is available at Juno Download, and i strongly reccomend checking it out. It features some great up and coming musicians in the Tel Aviv music scene including Axum, DJ Sabbo, Wunmi and Juares Dos Santos.

Download here and bump in your car down highway 1, from T.A to Jerusalem.
I’ve seen a few (too many) shows and I can promise that Ethiopian/Israeli duo Axum know how to get the party started. Seriously, when they played at the Grand Performances outdoor amphitheatre in LA, I sweat like Iggy Pop circa 1977. Gross? Maybe…but fun and good news if you live in DC or NYC because they’ll be joining Soulico on their US tour dates next week. My best/only advice is to buy some *sparkly* dancing shoes, txt your friends, and get your tix!
Tue. Sept. 8th - DC @ DC 9 (tickets available at the door)
Wed. Sept. 9th - NYC @ Bowery Ballroom (advance tickets available here)
(P.S. NYC is a benefit for New Israel Fund - great cause, crazy party!)
