Karen-O and The Kids - All is Love (from Where The Wild Things Are SDTRK)
Arcade Fire - Wake Up (Where The Wild Things Are Version)
I know this trailer has been posted already on this blog, but after reading the NY Times Magazine article on Spike Jonze this weekend, i felt the need to post again about this, what i believe will be an amazing film.
Maurice Bernard Sendak was born in Brooklyn in 1928 to Eastern European Jewish immigrants. Sendak grew up in the shadow of the Holocaust, during which many members of his family were lost. Some recurring themes seen in his work are the Old World of East European Jewry; Sendak’s own experiences growing up Jewish in Brooklyn, influenced by American popular culture; and the artist’s desire to process the horrors of the Holocaust while reconciling with Germanic culture by embracing its richness, bringing the artist back full circle to his own past. Endak gained international acclaim after writing and illustrating the critically acclaimed children’s book Where the Wild Things Are. Although the book’s depictions of fanged monsters concerned some parents when it was first released, as his characters were somewhat grotesque in appearance. Sendak’s seeming attraction to the forbidden or nightmarish aspects of children’s fantasy have made him a subject of controversy.
Nearly 5 years ago Sendak approached the inventive, adventurous director Spike Jonze to direct an adaptation of the Where the Wild Things are for the big screen. Jonze is most known for his work on the films Being John Malkovich and Jackass as well as countless innovative music videos including Beastie Boy’s sabotage, Fatboy Slim’s Praise You, and Weezer’s Buddy Holly. After years of contemplation, an intense divorce with Sophia Coppola and numerous ups and downs in his career, Jonze agreed to be involved with the project. He immediately tapped writer, editor and publisher Dave Eggers to co-write the screenplay with him. After countless battles with “hollywood” over the content, characters and plot structure of the film, Where The Wild Things is finally ready to be unleashed on the world. Check the trailer below
